Kappa Epsilon
A timeline
Kappa
Epsilon's roots began in 1987, since
then, we have upheld a tradition of
excellence through Friendship,
Justice, and
Learning.
• Spring
1987 - Todd Kent recieved
information from Rho Sigma Chi
founding Consul Chris Hildebrand
about Sigma Chi and decided to found
a chapter at Delaware because he was
not satisfied with the fraternities
already on campus.
• Other founding members were sought
through advertising in the Review,
word of mouth, and interviews.
• By the end of the semester there
were 18 founders of the interest
group, which became Sigma Chi Lambda
upon reconvening in fall.
• ROTC Captain Joel Foley became
faculty advisor for a short period
of time.
• First Rush.
• Grayson Wheatley, undergraduate
Sig transfer from Centre College in
Kentucky joined the group, later to
become an advisor.
• Alpha
pledge class gave us 13 new members
• The first event that brought the
group together was when the 18
"senior members" worked on the
Brookside Elementary School
playground.
• Jesse Reeves, Virginia Tech,
became alumni advisor and Don Pierce
was appointed to the Consul position
in January 1988 by Todd Kent (with
unanimous chapter approval).
• February 1988 - the chapter was
invited to its first Eastern
Province Workshop at GWU and the
Beta pledge class of 8 was inducted.
• March 1988 - Reeves and Wheatley
confronted the chapther over issue
of officer elections and challenged
Sigma Chi Lambda to focus on its
main goal of becoming Sigma Chi or
to pursue another fraternity's
charter.
• Spring/Summer of 1988 - Don Pierce
submitted initial "Declaration of
Intent" to Sigma Chi Headquarters to
gain recognition as a petitioning
local chapter. The petition was
rejected due to lack of university
support/recognition.
• Fall
1988 - Keith Ferrazzi, founding
Consul of the chapter at Yale, and
Mark Fox (Cal. State, Northridge)
became advisors with Fox leading the
formation of the House Corporation.
• The Gamma pledge class of 14 was
inducted.
• Chuck Sample, Greg "Tate" Suman,
Don Pierce, and Tony Etzel worked
with Ferrazzi, Fox, Reeves, and
Wheatley to construct a meaningful
local ritual for conducting Sigma
Chi Lambda meetings and initiations.
• Spring of 1989 - Greg Suman who
became the first elected Consul
(third overall), helped make a
successful presentation for IFC
recognition, and submitted a revised
"Declaration of Intent" to Sigma Chi
Headquarters. The petition was
accepted and Phase I, petitioning
local process, was initiated.
• Fall of 1989 - Pro Consul Gary
Solomon took over as Consul when
Suman resigned, and led the chapter
towards completion of Phase I.
