How a Sweetheart is Born
At each Grand Chapter-where
approximately 700 Sigma Chis convene
to elect officials and pave the path
for the Fraternity's future--a
chapter sweetheart is selected to be
the International Sweetheart of
Sigma Chi for the following two
years. During their tenure, they
will visit undergraduate chapters
across North America and attend
various leadership workshops.
Criteria for the International
Sweetheart are personality,
character, scholarship, campus
activities, Sigma Chi activities,
general accomplishments, poise and
grace. The song, "The Sweetheart of
Sigma Chi," honoring the young
woman's importance to the Fraternity
and an ideal brotherhood was written
by two Sigma Chis in 1911. It became
a national hit in 1928. At the 1948
Grand Chapter, the Fraternity held
its first election of an official
International Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.
